I am a child of immigrants from Taiwan, and went to Chinese School only on Saturdays until my first year of highschool. Knowing 1st hand how difficult it is to maintain a second language, we wanted to ensure our son had more exposure, consistency, and support at this young age. Faxon provides this as well as small class sizes to support his growth overall. - J. Chen Morikawa
To Faxon Language Immersion Academy
Our vision is to prepare students to communicate and participate in a global society. Similar in design to the acclaimed International School, we provide children the opportunity to share in the wonder of other cultures through a foreign language immersion program.

ELITE SCHOOL MANAGEMENT: I am very happy to share with everyone that we are now under the umbrella of the Elite School Management group. Having an education service provider enables us to better provide services to our students. If you have been in our building, you have already seen some of the benefits…..new student desks and the setup of our computer lab for MAP testing. They are here to provide help and support to all of us involved with Faxon and I am so happy to welcome them aboard.
MAP TESTING: Our fall MAP testing begins this week. I am attaching a copy of the testing schedule so you know when your child/children will be testing. Once we have the results, we will provide copies for you. Each student will establish their personal learning goals for the year with their teacher. You will also be given a copy of the goals as well as the plan for reaching those goals. You can help by making sure your child gets enough rest, has a good breakfast and comes to school on time when they are scheduled to test.
PLANNERS/AGENDA BOOKS: Every student is required to have a planner. The cost is $5. If you have not yet paid, please do so ASAP. Students will be required to write their assignments in their planner every day
MEETING WITH TEACHERS: Parents often want to take advantage of the student drop off to speak with their child’s teacher. It is very disruptive to the beginning of the day to have to address parent questions. You are always welcome in the building and your questions and concerns are very important to us and deserve our full attention. If you want to speak with a teacher, please send them an email or drop off a note asking to be called and I can promise you it will happen within 24 hours. If you choose to walk your child to class, please drop them off and let their day begin with the teacher’s full attention on them.
PARENT PORTAL IN MISTAR: Parents should be able to log into MISTAR to see their student’s progress. If you do not have a password yet or are having a problem with it, please let Mrs. Reed know.
ART PRIZE: On Tuesday, 9/27/16, we are taking our 3rd through 6th grade students on a field trip to Grand Rapids for Art Prize, an art fair sponsored by GVSU. The money for the field trip ($15 in cash) is due on Friday.
LUNCH/SNACK: I explained at Back to School night that we do not currently have a school lunch program. Please be sure to pack your child a complete and healthy lunch, a drink and a couple of snacks. When packing lunches remember that FAXON ACADEMY IS A PEANUT FREE ZONE! We have a number of students with peanut allergies, both through eating and also airborne. Be careful of what you send to school!
Twice a week we offer a “Fun Food Run” as a break from home packed lunches. You may choose to have your child have a hot dog lunch on Tuesdays and/or a pizza lunch on Fridays. These lunches must be ordered and paid for by Friday of the week prior to receiving the lunch. Hot dog lunch is $2.50 and pizza lunch is $3.50. You can elect to pay for a month at a time or more. Forms are in the main office.
ENROLLMENT FORMS: If you have any outstanding enrollment forms, they must be turned in to Mrs. Reed immediately. We are required to have up to date information for every child in our school. This includes, birth certificates, health appraisals, and immunization records
